Data Controller and Data Protection
DecoRta is responsible for personal data processed through decorta.com, except where Shopify or another provider acts as an independent controller. For privacy questions or requests, email support@decorta.com or write to 332 S Michigan Ave, #900, Chicago, IL 60604, United States.
DecoRta operates this store and website at www.decorta.com, including all related information, content, features, tools, products, and services, in order to provide you with a curated shopping experience (the "Services"). DecoRta is powered by Shopify, which enables us to provide the Services to you. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and disclose your personal information when you visit, use, or make a purchase from the Services, or otherwise communicate with us.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using or accessing any of the Services, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the collection, use, and disclosure of your information as described here.
If you are a resident of the EU/EEA or the UK, this policy should be read together with the additional rights described below.
1. Personal Information We Collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:
• Contact details: name, billing and shipping address, phone number, email address.
• Financial information: payment card details, transaction records, payment confirmation. Card data is processed securely by our payment providers; we do not store full card numbers on our servers.
• Account information: username, preferences and settings.
• Transaction information: items viewed, added to cart, purchased, returned, or cancelled; use of discount or gift card codes.
• Communications you include when contacting our support team, including enquiries, product advice requests, and complaints.
• Device information: browser type and version, IP address, device identifiers, operating system, time zone.
• Usage information: how and when you navigate and interact with the Services — pages and products viewed, time on site, navigation patterns, search terms, basket contents.
• Marketing data: newsletter sign-up data, contact preferences, opt-out records, and data on how you interact with our marketing communications.
We do not collect special categories of personal data (such as health data, racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, or data about criminal convictions).
2. How We Collect It
We collect information directly from you when you create an account, browse, subscribe to marketing communications, or make a purchase. We also collect it automatically through cookies and similar tracking technologies (see "Cookies and Tracking" below), from service providers that help us operate the store (including Shopify, our e-commerce platform provider, payment providers available at checkout, delivery couriers, and analytics providers such as Google Analytics), and from partners or other third parties such as advertising networks and social media platforms where you have consented to the sharing.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
• process and fulfill your orders, take payment, and manage your account;
• send order-related notifications and provide customer support;
• send marketing and promotional communications where you have subscribed (you may opt out at any time via the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting support@decorta.com);
• detect and prevent fraud and maintain the security of the Services;
• improve our products, website, and customer service; and
• comply with applicable legal obligations, including tax and accounting requirements.
Where EU/UK data protection law applies, we process your personal data only where we have a legal basis to do so: performance of a contract with you, your consent (which you may withdraw at any time), compliance with a legal obligation, or our legitimate business interests balanced against your rights.
4. How We Share Your Information
We may share your information with:
• Shopify and other service providers supporting our website and business systems (payment processing, shipping and delivery, analytics, IT management);
• marketing and advertising partners, in accordance with their own privacy policies;
• fraud-prevention organizations, tax authorities, police, regulators, and other public bodies where required;
• professional advisers (lawyers, bankers, auditors, insurers);
• a buyer or successor in the event of a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or sale of our business or assets; and
• other parties with your consent, or authorities or courts where required by law.
We require our processors to respect the security of your data and to use it only on our instructions. Some recipients (such as payment providers and authorities) act as independent controllers of your data; we are not responsible for how they process it — please see their own privacy notices.
5. Relationship with Shopify
The Services are hosted by Shopify. Information you submit will be transmitted to and processed by Shopify as well as third parties that may be located outside your country of residence. For more information on how Shopify handles your data, visit the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy at shopify.com/legal/privacy/app-users. You may also exercise certain rights via the Shopify Privacy Portal at privacy.shopify.com/en.
6. Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies to improve your experience, remember your preferences, and support marketing. For details of the cookies we use and why, manage your preferences through the privacy controls provided on our website.
You can set your browser to refuse some or all cookies or to alert you when sites set cookies; disabling cookies may make parts of our website inaccessible or not function properly. To opt out of Google Analytics tracking across websites, visit https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. You can also manage ad preferences via http://www.networkadvertising.org/choices/ and http://www.youronlinechoices.com/.
7. Children's Data
The Services are not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of majority in their jurisdiction. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, contact us at support@decorta.com and we will arrange for its deletion.
8. Data Retention and Security
We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, or resolve disputes. If you opt out of marketing, we keep a suppression record (for example, your email address on an opt-out list) to ensure you receive no further marketing.
We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used, or accessed in an unauthorized way. No security system is completely foolproof: transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure, and we recommend not communicating sensitive information through unsecured channels.
9. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
• access or know what personal information we hold about you;
• correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
• delete your personal information (subject to legal exceptions);
• receive a portable copy of your data;
• object to or restrict certain processing, including direct marketing; and
• opt out of targeted advertising or the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (to opt out, email support@decorta.com with the subject "Do Not Sell or Share").
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@decorta.com. We will respond in accordance with applicable law and may need to verify your identity before processing your request. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority — in the EU/EEA, the data protection authority in your country of residence; in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (www.ico.org.uk); in the US, the attorney general of your state.
10. International Transfers
Your personal information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than where you reside, including the United States. Where required, we rely on recognized transfer mechanisms such as Standard Contractual Clauses. Contact us for further information or a copy of the relevant safeguards.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date and notified to you as required by applicable law. Where consent is required for a new use of your information, we will request it separately.
